From Pakistan's current worst political, economic, financial crises and inflationary storm the poor and middle class and senior citizens are most effected. New records of inflation have been set during the last ten months. The price of common medicines and life saving medicines have increased by 35 to 40%.
Everyone knows that medicines in old age are an essential part of elderly diet. Every politicians of Pakistan visits the homes of senior citizens day and night to get their votes on election days but, they do not take any special measures for their welfare. After getting votes and coming to power, they disappear from society forever.
They have no sense of the difficulties and problems of senior and ordinary citizens. After 60 years the problem of senior citizens start increasing. After retirement, they are forced to go round offices and pay bribes. The indifference of the departments and institutions does not bring anyone to mind. However, as per rules and regulations, they should get all pensions, arrears and gratuity and other accessories on the day of retirement but their is nothing like that here.
At present, the formulas for determining the pension and the federal and provincial levels are in use in the country. Under this, the monthly pension of a retired employee can not even be eaten for two meals a day. The government should take immediate steps to give the old age pensioners their legitimate rights through the ministry of finance, state bank, Attorney General and Advocate General.
