Protests erupt in Pakistan cities after Imran Khan arrest

Police have fired water cannon and tear gas to quell  demurrers that erupted in several  metropolises across Pakistan hours after former Prime Minister Imran Khan was arrested in connection with a corruption case.

Thousands of Khan’s  sympathizers took to the  thoroughfares on Tuesday in the capital Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar and other  metropolises to protest against hisarrest. At least one worker for Khan’s party was killed in Quetta, Shireen Mazari, former minister and  elderly leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf( PTI) party told media.

In Islamabad, hundreds of PTI activists blocked the main Kashmir Highway, which suspended business on either side of the road.   Reporting from Islamabad, Al Jazeera’s Kamal Hyder said “ a precarious situation ” is developing following Khan’s arrest.   “ As the reports of Imran Khan’s arrest went across the country, protesters( took) to the  thoroughfares and apprehensions are being made, ” Hyder said. “ There's considerable  wrathfulness as far as Imran Khan’s  sympathizers are concerned and the situation is  raising by the hour. ”

Hyder added that  officers anticipated the  demurrers and have advised the public against  sharing in them.   “ The inspector general of Islamabad police has said that anybody coming out to protest should be arrested, ” he said.   Original broadcaster Geo News reported that police have arrested over a dozen of PTI workers after the two sides  disaccorded at several points in thecity. In Lahore, the country’s alternate- largest  megacity, protesters gathered outside the former  high minister’s Zaman Park  hearthstone and blocked the  conterminous roads by burning tyres. Police used water cannon to disperse the protesters.

In the southern  harborage  megacity of Karachi, PTI  sympathizers gathered outside the original party office located along the  megacity’s busiest Shahrah-e-Faisal Road. Both tracks of the road near the PTI office were closed to business as heavy contingents of police cordoned off the area.   Police also hurled tear gas  drums to disperse the protesters when they tried to block the road.   A group of protesters  dashed  monuments and burned tyres at Burns Road, the  megacity’s  notorious food  road, suspending business and forcing shopkeepers to pull their shutters campo.

In northwestern Landi Kotal  city, which borders neighbouring Afghanistan, protesters blocked the Pak- Afghan  trace at two points, Dawn News reported.   “ We'll block the entire country and  kick until Khan is released, ” Waseem Qayyum, a protester, told dpa newsagency.Khan’s arrest followed months of political  extremity and came hours after the country’s  important military rebuked the former  transnational cricketer for  professing a  elderly officer had been involved in a plot to kill him. “ Imran Khan has been arrested in the Qadir Trust case, ” the  sanctioned Islamabad police Twitter account said,  pertaining to a corruption case.

videotape broadcast on original television channels showed Khan – who has a pronounced limp since being shot during an assassination attempt last time – being manhandled by dozens of civil rangers into an armoured auto inside the Islamabad High Court demesne.   It wasn't  incontinently clear where he was taken.   Anticipating his arrest, party  officers  latterly released apre-recorded  videotape by Khan in which he  prompted  sympathizers to come out in support of “ true freedom ”.   “ My Pakistanis, by the time these words reach you, I would have been detained under an illegitimate case, ” he says in the  videotape. “ One thing should come clear for all of you from this is that abecedarian rights in Pakistan, the rights given to us by our constitution and republic, have been buried.

”   Pakistan is deeply mired in an  profitable and political  extremity, with Khan  obliging the  floundering coalition government for early  choices.
